Mainmast have issued a Press statement in order to clarify our current operations and the investment that we continue to put into our successful West Coast operations – Grain barging, road fleet, engineering, and shipbuilding.
”Mainmast Ltd are pleased to be involved in the building of a new tank barge in Liverpool and expect further build projects to follow. Without funding support from government we have put our own investment in place
to replace ageing craft.
It is disappointing that our plans for expansion of the current grain barging operations in Manchester have been disrupted,
and the recommissioning of the original dry docks in Manchester scrapped due to the expansion of media city and the intended change of use of the site by Peel Holdings.
Having been aware of the forthcoming changes to our Trafford Park site lease for some time we have been working closely with Peel Ports in order to identify an alternative berth that will be developed in order to meet our future operational needs.
Our grain customers have been supportive throughout this process and continue to mirror our strong desire to utilise the Manchester Ship Canal for future product movements. The focus of our ship building and repair services will now move to Liverpool”
We will be working with local media and trade press over coming weeks to tell the story of Mainmasts success, safeguarding of jobs, creation of new jobs, and continuing investment in equipment and people in Liverpool.
